Feast of Abundance
Kitsap House maintains a spreadsheet of meeting locations across South Kitsap. It has gotten another workout this Fall. We need more room! More room:
For the Alpha retreat – We are currently meeting in two locations and want to be together for Alpha Weekend.
For Sunday mornings – We’ve maxed out chairs we can put in the cafeteria and now have up to 30 kids in different parts of hallways.
For Feasts – we no longer have space for a sit down meal together with the Kitsap House community, let alone for the friends and neighbors with whom we long to share a feast.
Mitchell House is so fun to design with these needs in mind. We look forward to having a large living room and dining room in the center of the Port Orchard neighborhood. Thank you for joining us in this Time to Restore so that we can see this building restored!
I see God creating important opportunities for us in the meantime. God is inviting us into radical hospitality for the sake of our neighbors.
This hospitality stretches our comfort – nobody likes those Sunday chairs ;) Yet we are making ourselves at home in someone else’s space. Growing as grateful guests in a space that is outside of our control.
Jesus did this so much. He was always entering into others’ homes - Pharisees and sinners alike. And when one particularly memorable couple urged Jesus to stay with them for a meal in their home, they realized who Jesus was when he took the bread, blessed it and broke it. Imagine if Jesus had continued on, as Luke records that he was intending to do. (Luke 24:13-35)
The practice of hospitality invites us to be the guests and the hosts. To live generously, adaptively, and vulnerably. To see Jesus when we break bread together.
For now, I’m grateful to not have Mitchell complete. Because I think God is stretching all of us in the practice of hospitality. It cannot be someone’s centralized work right now to host a feast– and I hope it never is. We’re all getting stretched as guests, and I hope you’ll respond to an invitation to be the host.
Our upcoming Feast of Abundance needs hosts. It needs homes and liturgists and food and gifts given to those in need. The staff of Kitsap House can provide the framework, but we’re out of space to provide one Feast of Abundance.
Will you consider being a host of a Feast of Abundance for your friends and neighbors?
This form for hosting will help you think through what that ask is about. There is space to leave questions for an FAQ in coming. Think about filling out this form as an invitation to put your name on the spreadsheet of locations we’ve been keeping since 2019. Where might God be opening for his people to gather, to experience his joy, and to make space for others? Might it be your home? I hope you’ll consider it! And as we generously “insist” that people come in and stay, eat, receive – I pray that Jesus will be known in the breaking of bread.
With joy and expectancy,
Megan
