Exploring Faith

What if church was a place to ask questions? What if belonging happened outside of one hour on Sunday?

What’s your story?

Maybe you’re someone who feels like God’s out there, but you’re too embarrassed about the questions you have. Maybe you’ve been a part of a church and you’re disillusioned or burnt by your experience. But you haven’t given up. For someone like you, Sunday morning might not be the best place to start engaging (or re-engaging) faith.

Here’s three places we hope you can explore faith with us.

Neighborhood

  • We hope your first encounter with Kitsap House was through a neighbor (or a friend, or a family member), not this website. We want to invite our neighbors into our lives intentionally, with curiosity and love. Most of that happens organically, as we invite people into our homes and backyards. At Kitsap House we’re also really intentional about finding “Third Places” that make room for spiritual conversations and friendship. You might find us at places like Yoked Brewery or Coffee Oasis. Sometimes we host events at the 703 Residency. The point is, we hope a lot of the life of our community happens in neighborhoods because we believe we encounter God in the seemingly mundane miracles of meals and conversations.

  • A couple of times a year we host a course called Alpha. Alpha always has a meal, because we believe that feeling welcome and belonging come before good conversation. After the meal, we watch a video on a spiritual question (like, “Who is Jesus?” or “Why and how do we pray?”). We end the night with a discussion around the table, led by a host who seeks to facilitate open, nonjudgmental conversation around the topic. Alpha offers us experiences with God, prayer, hospitality, and friendship. Alpha is a great place for someone who needs room to ask questions or talk about their perspective on faith. We might host this at the 703 Residency, a “Third Place” in the community, or even in someone’s home.

  • For someone who has been through Alpha and feels ready to explore how to live out faith, we host a course called Practicing The Way several times a year. This course asks the question, “What is the way of Jesus?” We believe the way of Jesus is the better way, and we seek to learn from him and his way through learning how to integrate practices that help us be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did. Like Alpha, this course begins with a meal and focuses on the experience of exploring ancient practices of faith that help transform us.
