Winter normally is a season for hibernation, quiet, stillness. Not this year at Kitsap House! I am so delighted and so grateful to God for the testimonies of people hearing from God for the first time – just this Sunday! I am meeting your neighbors at Family Dinners and Sunday worship and out and about downtown Port Orchard – yes! even in January! There have been cases of people surprised by God’s generous provision and responding joyfully with giving back to God in offering to this two year vision to TIME TO RESTORE. Kids are bringing up fun questions like, “What do you mean, you give an offering to God?” And it’s so fun to pause and think, how do I help a child understand all that God has given us and how we respond?
This is all just two weeks into January. What does the rest of this year hold? Lord, we are listening and following you!
If January has been more about hibernation for you, let me just say – that’s normal. AND I want to invite you into this amazing stream of life that God is bringing us.
Sunday during the sermon I walked you through a devotional that we’ve put out alongside TIME TO RESTORE so that we are formed together by God’s vision of his “house.” Each week’s guide closes with writing our own prayers for Kitsap House and Mitchell House using that week’s passage. I’d love for you to join us! Here’s the digital copy. We’ll have more physical copies on Sunday, too.
During the service, the QR code that was meant to go to that digital copy actually went to another way that we are learning – the Practicing the Way Generosity practice. Already, two dozen of us are growing through that course individually and our Family Dinners are launching into it this week. You can join us in reflecting on how God calls us to respond to his joyful giving to us through this four week, online course.
I love how Larry talked about it the first week. He said, “This course isn’t primarily or even mostly about giving to the church. It’s about living a generous life. I don’t want anyone to miss out on growing in a life of joyful generosity.” So please join us there.
We’re within reach of our big celebration coming Sunday, February 8. It will be our third birthday as a church and our annual Feast of New Beginnings! What an apropos day to celebrate the new beginning in the work of restoration God is calling us to. So Sunday, February 8, will also be our Commitment Sunday, when we bring our commitments to the Lord for the next two years. Your commitment will help us pace the work of sustaining ministry and restoring the building of Mitchell House.
I’d love for you to join us in this new journey of restoration.
Mark your calendar for February 8 and continue to pray with us: What is God inviting you to commit in the next two years?
With joy,
Megan
