A Remarkable Family

Nineteen of my friends, family and neighbors got to see last Sunday morning everything I’ve shared about Kitsap House. We celebrated baby Rebecca’s baptism. We got a chance to be on the receiving end of vows with you- our precious community- vows of our own trust in God and our shared commitment with you to raise Rebecca to know Jesus, his love and his way.

Whoa. Thank you.

Our elders have been narrowing in on language for what we value at Kitsap House and two of those words were particularly on display this weekend:

Hospitality & Family

You carried out an umbrella in the downpour to help my friends and their kids walk in. You photographed the service so beautifully and showered us with the gifts of coffee and a baptismal towel and a Bible full of your words and highlighted scriptures. You showed my out of town family just how much in town family we and our kids have- aunties and grandpas and people who will push strollers and serve communion.

How the Spirit is forming us is truly remarkable.

I want to write this down and send this out to remember and to praise God- this is what he does. He takes people who were strangers and lost and finds us and makes us family.

I trust all this is not merely representative of how we are loved as the Hackman family. I know and have seen that this is how you love your neighbors and the neighbors and friends of one another.

There’s no directive here except to praise God— this is his work through you!— and to ask the Spirit of God to abide more and more. May he knit more and more neighbors and family and friends whom we love and yet do not yet know God’s love into this remarkable family God calls his Church.

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:3-6
