90 Day Challenge begins TODAY!
Today we begin a fun summer challenge: reading all the stories of the life of Jesus in the Gospels in 90 days. There are 89 chapters in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. So if you read a chapter a day for 90 days, you’ll have read all the stories of the life of Jesus!
This challenge was gifted to me by Doug Burleigh. It is his practice when mentoring young adults to have them begin walking with Jesus this way. He suggests a couple of questions that they ask after reading each chapter, inviting God’s Spirit to reveal Jesus to them.
I loved this.
Since 2015, it’s been a practice to do the 90 day challenge at least once a year. I hope you’ll jump in!
What keeps it fresh for me is asking a new question every year. Something I want God to help me answer or help me to see in a new way. I always stick to the first two questions:
What does this say about God?
How do people experience God’s presence?
This one I switch up!
My question this summer is: God, what do you say to me?
Today in John 1, I saw:
God is light (compared to darkness), he invites people to follow him, and he seems to have a sense of humor (just look at Jesus with Nathaniel).
Visibly as a dove, walking around, as the neighbor from that small town
“Come with me, and I’ll show you what I’m up to.”
Bonus for this summer! A fellow challenge-taker-upper is going to be writing a daily prompt! So sign up for that email list, add your info here.
Double bonus: We’ll be pulling one name from the email list on Wednesday morning to give away the four Gospels in a journal format.
After each book, we’ll come together around a fire (like I think Jesus would have) to discuss what we’re learning. I hope you’ll jump in, whether this is your first time or 11th year reading the Gospels. God’s Word is alive to all of us.
Come, Holy Spirit. Reveal to us who you are, God. We want to know you! Amen.
Megan
